     Most employers place ads on their own but can utilize the services of a professional advertising agency as needed.  Ad agencies are used more often when organizations want to develop an image advertising campaign than when they are merely placing a simple want ad in the local paper or national journal.  Professional advertising agencies usually earn commissions on the ads placed and do not always charge for their design services.  Advertising agencies can also provide technical advice, assistance and suggestions about targeting a diverse pool of applicants.  Many of the best applicants may not subscribe to the traditional mainstream media outlets where employment advertising is placed, therefore employers who want to increase the diversity of their applicant pool may consult with Advertising Agencies who are familiar with a broader spectrum of media outlets. 

 

     Using an ad agency to design better advertisements can create a competitive advantage for institutions aim to attract the best possible talent.  They are also effective at designing full scale advertising campaigns, or for placing ads in multiple sources at once.  They are also effective at helping institutions stretch their advertising dollars by negotiating discounts or designing more creating and cost effective advertisements.
